Students working on assignment

I am honored to serve as Principal of Butterfield Elementary.

The Butterfield community is truly wonderful. We have a shared goal: the academic and emotional growth of our children. Everyone on this campus is committed to this goal, and I know that our families share this commitment. The relationships that we share between our staff, students, and families are the foundation of this goal and will allow us to continue ensuring Butterfield is an excellent school.

I started my teaching career 25 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area. After four years in the classroom, my wife, Teresa and I relocated to Tucson. In 2002, I joined Mountain View High School as an English teacher; I taught 13 years before transitioning from the classroom to an Associate Principal role at MVHS where I was part of the administrative team for seven years. In the fall of 2022, I moved into an Associate Principal position at Twin Peaks K-8. I am thrilled to join the exceptional staff of Butterfield as Principal. My experiences have helped me see the social, academic, and behavioral transitions from kindergarten through senior year.

Teresa and I met in college at San Jose State University. We have been married for 28 years and have two fantastic adult children. They both graduated from Mountain View High School and Teresa and I are so very proud of where they are taking their lives. When not at school, I am usually riding my mountain bike, tending our garden, or playing with our three dogs: Sherman, Bea, and Chewy.

Our mission at Butterfield is to challenge all students to achieve academic and personal excellence in a powerful, relevant and supportive learning environment. We are committed to meeting the needs of every student. Working together with parents and families, it is our goal to help grow our community of learners by setting an example and celebrating our successes.

Our PBIS rules are Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be Productive. Butterfield is also a kind campus and regularly participates in activities that promote the Be Kind movement.

Thank you for choosing Butterfield Elementary for your child’s education. I encourage all families to become involved in our school by joining our Butterfield Community Activities Council (BCAC), volunteering in the classroom, and providing homework support.

Every Bobcat, Every day!
