Marana Unified School District is proud to announce Alicia Johnson, Behavior Interventionist at Butterfield Elementary School, as the 2025 Support Staff of the Year!

Alicia has dedicated the past two years to transforming student behavior support on our campus. Through her commitment, innovative approaches, and tireless efforts, she has created an environment that empowers students to manage their behavior, build positive relationships, and succeed in the classroom.

One of Alicia's most impactful achievements has been the development of the "Chit Chat Table." This welcoming space has become a cornerstone for students who may need a break or benefit from structured activity time. Filled with games, art activities, and calming exercises, the Chit Chat Table offers students a safe space to decompress, reflect, or enjoy a structured play session when needed. Alicia's proactive approach to behavioral support allows students to self-regulate while still feeling connected and included. This space has positively reshaped how students approach conflict and self-management, reinforcing a culture of empathy and understanding.

Alicia approaches each task with a calm demeanor and a thoughtful attitude. She is reliable and seen as someone who staff members turn to for guidance and encouragement. She carefully thinks of individualized ways to meet students where they are at and is always willing to support them. She thinks outside the box and uses her creativity to make learning fun and to make each student feel seen and valued.

She is EXTRAORDINARY at assisting teachers with behavior management on a consistent basis and in emergency situations. She spends time building relationships with students, and truly cares about their well-being and what is best for them.

Alicia’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to the success of every student make her an outstanding person to be recognized as the Support Staff of the Year!
