The Wheels on the Bus (and a Superintendent) Go Round and Round!
Dr Streeter and students riding school bus

Dr. Dan Streeter, superintendent, caught the morning route of Bus 527, and a glimpse of how MUSD keeps our buses and thousands of students transported to schools, activities, games, and events.

It may have been too early for some kids being picked up on Sept. 11 to acknowledge the man sitting in the front row with more than a bleary “hello,”  however, Dr. Streeter cheerfully greeted each student as they looked for their seat. At bus stops, Dr. Streeter transitioned to new seats to engage in conversations with all the students. Discussions covered their favorite subjects, what students had for breakfast, and their favorite part about the school day - and one young student exclaimed, “Going home!”

MUSD travels more than 12,903 miles daily, transporting kids to and from school, events, and activities. The department completes 108 routes daily with its large fleet, which includes 32 special needs buses and seven vans. Dr. Streeter witnessed the impact of the relationships built during bus rides like these - that continue all year long - and acknowledged their importance in students’ daily routines. Bus drivers also play an important role as typically one of the first people the student sees at the beginning of their school day, and the last person they see when they leave.

Angel Dominguez, MUSD bus driver, has driven for the District for three years.  He explained that the morning routes are usually quiet with the kids waking up. However, before students exit the bus, Angel belts the song from SpongeBob Squarepants and encourages students to be as loud as they want. Angel wants to make sure they are awake and ready to learn, and the students LOVE starting their morning this way!

MUSD thanks to our Angel and our entire MUSD Transportation team!
